Disappointed. Sure, the hotel is historic, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be well maintained. Our room #209 was tiny with peeling wallpaper, a noisy window a/c, musty smell and bed covers that didn't appear clean. On top of that, the Wi-Fi didn't work and no one had bothered to change the clock back an hour almost 3 weeks ago so we panicked when we woke up. When I mentioned the problems to the front desk person (Sherika, I think), she couldn't have cared less - didn't even thank me for bringing the shortcomings to her attention. She definitely was NOT a customer service person - should not be dealing with guests at all.
The Hotel is beautiful and the front desk representatives are courteous. The breakfast needs to be improved, thus missing the 5th star..
1st time I've stayed at the Excelsior but not the first time to Jefferson. It's like walking back in time from the moment you pull into town. The charm, elegance, and history of the hotel is awesome. The staff are very friendly and informative. I will definitely be coming back to check out the other rooms. We stayed in Ladybird Johnson's room. Will stay in #215 next time.
Quaint, charming place. Staff is very engaging & accommodating. Ample parking & plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Its a very old building so expect quirky decor, delightful kitsch, and well-worn restrooms. Delightful space!
My husband and I are staying at the Excelsior House for our anniversary. We love it! It's old and quirky and wonderful. Our room faces the beautiful courtyard. Though small, it is enough space for us. My only complaint is that the shower head is at my husband's eye level (he is 6'2"), so showering is a bit complicated for him. The service is wonderful. Coffee and water are available in the lobby. The front desk attendant noticed that we came in with a bottle of wine and offered us glasses before we had a chance to ask. The location is perfect; it's close to anything you might want to see or do in Jefferson. The Excelsior House is a lovely place for a couple or small family to stay.
